Introduction

The idea of Vedic Gurukulam was first conceived by His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (an Indian spiritual teacher and the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, commonly known as the “Hare Krishna Movement”). He said, “The old system of Gurukulam should be revived as the perfect example of a system designed to produce great men, sober and responsible leaders, who know what is the real welfare of the citizens”.

Inspired by the vision of Swami Prabhupada, a group of devotees came forward to beg land from Tribal of Forest based ancient village of Kutam (10 km inside the woods in Silli Tribal belt, Ranchi). The Area was protected from Elephants & Tigers owing to expansive Sand bed of Svarnrekha river. It was superstitiously believed that witches used to kill people and villagers used to migrate from one side of river to the other. When these monks came to beg land, villagers warned them of black magic and witchcraft that might happen but monks didn’t bother it. They came and made simple bamboo huts with local materials and local help of Tribal. There was a new ray of hope as they were coming out of their prejudices. Slowly with the help of local villagers they constructed a small bamboo temple and whole village took responsibility to worship Radha Krishna deities and in no time whole village became free from chronic drinking habit and their family members got sigh of relief. Everyone became pure in habits and language. But the problem of kids education was still there. So a Gurukulam was started based on CBSE pattern along with Vedic core of LOGIC (essential for developing sequential thought pattern), YOGA (for harmonising healthy body with healthy mind ), Ayurveda (Nadi parikshan is best learned by kids as their hands are in formative years) etc. Students now can make sense in 10 different languages including French, Indonesian, Sanskrit ,Bangla , Marathi, etc.

To shape Bhaktivedanta Gurukulam (BVG) from scratch, His Grace Das Gadadhar Prabhu had to struggle very hard. Soon after sometime, many devotees from all over India appreciated them wholeheartedly for their back-breaking efforts and affectionately joined hand to support this great cause.

BVG affords to its student essential trainings , which focuses on progressive self-sustainable holistic model , to make one academically overdoing, physically lions , economically smart , socially shelter figure and leaders for tomorrow.

Started humbly, now BVG has grown to 5 canters in 5 different states Jharkhand, Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka & Bihar. This has been possible because of the indefatigable enthusiasm and tireless work of whole team.

Since a good deal of spade-work by its pioneers had gone into its beginning, BVG stands on a solid foundation and eventually steers past many challenges. It has grown from strength to strength, creating ripples in society.
